School Message from Principal Zuniga

Hybrid Learning Model to Begin

For all 5 day and Hybrid students

We are very excited to have children return to campus over the next two weeks. Our Rancho Santa Fe staff has been very busy preparing and perfecting every last detail to welcome our Broncos back into the classroom. Student and staff safety is the utmost importance to us and will remain at the forefront of everything we do. Physical distancing, PPE and disinfecting measures will occur routinely throughout the course of the day.


All students who have chosen the hybrid or the 5 day in person learning model will be returning on the dates listed below following the hybrid format.


·       Kindergarten - 2nd Grade will begin Wednesday 9/16

·       3rd - 5th Grade will begin Monday 9/21


The schedule is as follows:

·       Monday = Maroon (M/W in person & T/TH online)

·       Tuesday = Gold (T/TH in person & M/W online)

·       Wednesday = Maroon  (M/W in person & T/TH online)

·       Thursday = Gold (T/TH in person & M/W online)

·       Friday = Online ( Both M/W and T/TH cohorts will be learning remotely on Fridays)


Our campus opens at 7:15 AM, students may come for breakfast or head straight to their classroom any time between 7:15 AM and 7:40 AM. Multiple entrances will be open for student arrival with staff stationed throughout the campus to assist students to their classrooms and/or the cafeteria for breakfast. Staff members can be easily identified as they will be wearing Rancho Santa Fe school spirit attire.


If a student arrives a few minutes after the bell, the courtyard gate will remain open for students in an effort to prevent crowding in the front office. (Additional information can be found under the COVID Arrival Procedures).



This year we will not be sharing supplies. It is recommended students come to school with a backpack and their own supplies. Teachers will be providing additional information in regards to specific supply and wish lists.


Closed Campus

Student Safety is Our Top Priority Our campus will be closed to all outside guests, only students and staff will be able to enter.  Visitors and volunteers will not be permitted at this time.


Nurse Protocols

You can assist us by screening your child before bringing them to school. Please keep them home if they are ill or have a temperature of 100.4 or higher. If your child takes medication at school, we are offering Medication Drop Off on Monday, 9/15/20, from 10-11AM. If you are unable to make that time, you may email Nurse Connie at to make an appointment.




School will begin at 7:40am.  Students can arrive to school as early as 7:15 AM every morning where students are able to go to the classroom or to the cafeteria for breakfast. Multiple gates and doors on both sides of the campus will be open for students We will have specific locations for each grade level to enter in order to reduce the amount of traffic in one particular area. See map attached.  When dropping off students please follow the signage that is posted around the drop off loop. Students will be dropped off at the curb and walk to the entrance that is assigned to their grade level. There will be staff members there to assist in directing students. Students that will be walking to school from the south end will enter through the playground gate area if they are coming from the north end they will come in through the front gates. If your child is riding the bus to school you can help with social distancing at the bus stop. There will be some social distancing measures in place on the bus. Students must wear face coverings to ride the school bus. We are encouraging families to drive students to school if possible in order to help with social distancing.


We know that parents like to walk their students to school on the first day but this will not be possible. Walkers: parents, guardians, and caregivers will not be allowed to walk their students to the gates. There will be cones labeled “It is time to say goodbye here.”

Also, for the safety of our students we would like to minimize the number of adults entering our school building and the number of adults our students come into contact with so we will not be having any adults entering our building or coming in to volunteer or eat lunch with their students.

If your child is going to be late or be picked up early please pull up to the front and stay in your vehicle. You will then call the office at 623-535-6507 and your student will be walked out to you. Must have your ID available.

Dismissal Procedures

Rancho Santa Fe has worked closely with Litchfield Elementary School District's Transportation Department and local law enforcement to design an effective and safe protocol for student drop off and pick up. We will also be staggering dismissal times for walkers and car riders to help with traffic flow and avoid large gatherings of parents and students. No parents will be allowed to park and pick up. Older children will dismiss at the time of the youngest child in your family.  Bus riders will dismiss at the assigned time for their grade level even if they have a younger sibling. If you are walking to pick up your child we ask that you inform the classroom teacher of where you will be meeting your child (IE. near the crosswalk, on the sidewalk).

Dismissal will be staggered to ensure social distancing to safely load the bus and car loop (see below). It is essential that parents of 3rd-5th grade students are not in the car line until after 2:25pm. Each family will be given a car window sign to be placed in their passenger front window. This sign will have a number for your family along with the student’s names and grade levels. Staff will enter your family’s number into a document that will be viewed by all teachers as you drive into the car loop. We ask that you continue to pull up as far forward as you can. There will be signage and staff to direct cars. Once again parents we ask you to keep sick children or a child with a fever at home.

Dismissal Schedule:

2:00PM: Kindergarten

2:15PM:  1st through 2nd grade

2:25PM:  3rd through 5th Grades

Adults will be out there to direct parents.  ALL parents are asked to stay IN your vehicle and pull as far forward as possible to help the traffic flow.  If you have more than one child they will be released with the youngest child in your family in the car loop.

Breakfast & Lunch

Starting September 16, free school meals will be available daily at every school for children age 18 and under. Lunch schedules will vary by school. Digital Learning Academy students are encouraged to visit their home school for free meals. Free meals will be available through December 31 from 11-12pm beginning September 16.

If students are eating breakfast with us they will head straight to the cafeteria and be given a grab and go breakfast and be socially distanced with two broncos on either side of a table prior to the first bell. Supervision will be provided at all times to ensure social distancing by the adults in the cafeteria and in the hallway. Once they are finished they will head straight to their classrooms

Item Drop Off

We are limiting all items that are not a necessities coming onto the campus and into the classrooms. We are hopeful things can get back to normal soon, once this is safe we will communicate new procedures with you.

I would like to send a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you for the continued support we have been receiving. It has been a unique time for all of us and we are learning new things each and every day. As we move into the hybrid and in person learning models, we will continue to work through every aspect with a positive outlook, strong family connection and an open mind. Thank you for the positivity you have offered throughout this past six weeks as well as the flexibility and the grace you have given. It has made this new style of education a bit easier to learn, maneuver and perfect. We greatly value our strong relationships with our community and are looking forward to the many accomplishments this school year will bring.
